Ouch!

Friday – ate some Kettle Chips, bit into a “conjoined” pair and cracked my molar. Ow. Thinking about it, ow. Drinking hot or cold drinks. Ow.

Time I got a checkup. Maybe it will be easier to pull the bugger out as my tongue keeps caressing it without my permission.

Stuff

The presentations seemed to go well, shame there were so few people at the Novell event. If I made one person think, then it served it’s purpose. I don’t think I’ll get the free invite to Salt Lake just yet.

Too many papers report we want Emile Heskey. Worse luck, we seem to be paying for him! He’s probably a nice bloke, but underperforming footballer. God help us!

To Sky+ or not to Sky+?

That is certainly the question. I’m locked in mental anguish, trying to decide whether or not to stick with reliable but extremely boring NTL telly, or whether to go with Sky+. Everyone I know who has the latter says it is indeed the dog’s love potatoes, but it’s still a bit of a decision to make.

I have no beef with NTL, the phone and broadband is perfectly fine, but they are so slow to innovate, it’s untrue. They’ve recently merged with Telewest (who have just released a PVR, which is really the selling point), but there seems no sign of integrating TW’s progressive thinking into the boring green giant.

Sky’s latest offer ends today, so I’m going to take a look tomorrow to see what’s on offer. If it’s good, I’ll probably go for it. If not, I’ll hang back and see what NTL has to offer. I might even ring NTL up and see if they’ll bend over for me if I stay with their TV a little while longer.

Watch this space. Going to watch 24 now…

Philip! They said it wasn’t you!!

What have I been up to lately? A lot. It feels like a lot, in fact, it probably is a lot when you can’t stop your brain from ticking over. No, I don’t take drugs. No, I don’t smoke. No, I don’t really drink. No, I’m not totally boring (though I can see where you’re coming from).

My friend Dave and I claim inventorship of a stoopid new game. It doesn’t have a name, but it’s rules are simple. You pick scenes from your favourite movie and re-enact them in an accent of your choosing. For example, we chose RoboCop (a mutual favourite) and re-enacted scenes in a Brummie (Birmingham, UK) accent. It’s damn funny. In fact, it’s damn funnier if you have a few alcoholic beverages first. We then moved onto Pulp Fiction. I can’t remember laughing so hard in a long time. Pick any film, pick any accent. A guarantee you’ll love it!

Mortality

I’ve attended three funerals now in the same family in around six months. I’ve heard in the eulogies that these occasions make you consider your own mortality. Perhaps I’m getting more laid back in my thirties, but to be honest, the thought never crossed my mind.

After a certain point, you just accept that things happen for a reason (even if sometimes there doesn’t appear to be a reason). It always reveals itself in the days, months and if you’re really unlucky, years ahead.

On a lighter note (E maj. ought to do it), bought myself a new digital camera yesterday. It was a totally impulse purchase, which is something I never do. I had some rare spare time, so I decided to take some pictures of the boys and experiment with black and white photos in The Gimp (that’s a free software package, before you get kinky!).

Shift tilt is an amazing thing where say someone takes an aerial shot of Vegas, alters it in Photoshop, and makes it look like a model village. Insanely brilliant. Head over to Flickr and check it out, there’s loads of them. It’s truly inspiring and makes me want to record life better for posterity.

In Praise Of Wayne Rooney

Had the pleasure of seeing Wayne Rooney play in the flesh twice in the last couple of weeks, once at Cardiff and once at the JJB.

Let me just say that he’s a joy. He has no idea how good he is, and has the innocence of a young lad playing because he enjoys it, and just happens to get boatloads of cash for doing it. At Cardiff, they were 4-0 up with 5 minutes left, and he’s still chasing down, working hard for his team. I’m glad he’s English, and I hope he never loses that innocence.

Apparently he had a snowball fight after a match the other night with some kids outside a ground. God bless him!

Linuxy Stuff

Started afresh learning all of the Novell Linux training stuff, in the hope I can resit the CLP practicum sometime soon and do a proper job of it. Let me give you one word of advice, you can’t wing it. Well, more than one word but only one sentiment. Oh, and you can still pass and not get everything right, which is what I thought. That’s now two sentiments. Sorry.

Happy February, what’s left of it. Cardiff this weekend, hopefully we can put one over those franchise following Mancunian-by-proxy types from Guildford. Will post some Cardiff pics on my return.

The pic illustrates an oxymoron – a nuclear missile promotes peace. Those that have them threaten those who don’t with them and we somehow maintain an uneasy status quo. I’m very down on religion – find me a war or major conflict in history that didn’t have religion as it’s spark. There won’t be many.
